I am gonna go nuts in a minute im fed up of crappy steam now. Ive installed it and HL2 its downloaded some updates etc.. but when i goto launch HL2 or a source mod i see the taskbar icon for it then it just disappears again! no sign of it properly launching.

Any ideas why its doing it? Im starting to get really hacked off with it, WHY DID THEY INTRODUCE STEAM!!!!!!

Probably because it it's a reasonably good idea, and works perfectly fine when everything is set up correctly.

Is Half-Life 2 100% fully downloaded and up to date?

    Are the mod(s) installed correctly?

    Firewall letting everything through?

Have a look on the Steam forums for similar problems.

    hi,
do you have direct x9 properly installed?
several people have had this problem..the remedy being a dx9 install.
    might be worth a shot.
    good luck,
    steve.

Glad you fixed the problem. Don't see why the drivers were stopping it from loading up though. Maybe it was a dodgey install?

And don't knock Steam. it's a very good program and a very good idea. And as you can see steam didn't cause the problemo ;)
