I just put together my pc, specification in signature.

I am getting some strange noise coming from the computer, it's sitting directly to my left.

It's a sort of static, electrical sound, high pitch. Not entirely sure how to describe it but it's incredibly annoying and gives me a headache after a while. The PSU is fairly old (about 2006), could it be on it's way out?

What is the usual culprit for this kind of noise?

Any ideas, much appreciated :)

Take the side off, stick your head in the case and find out where the noise is coming from. Could be anything?

I had a high pitched whine and it ended up being a cable touching a fan.

same old same old,

you didn't rma it then, and have the older type with a known problem, they should have been replaced, most did, seems you didn't

but for now just stick in a new one

Get rid of that, even if it is not the problem 7 year old PSU = BAD.

You can pick up decent ones for £40-£55 depending on wattage.

This should be more than enough:

YOUR BASKET
1 x XFX Pro 550W Core Edition '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £54.98
Total : £65.48 (includes shipping : £8.75).

Can not express how important it is to get a new one, with a system like that a PSU going bang is the last thing you want!
