Ok so shes not 18 till next year where as I am 18 this year and we are both in year 12 I didnt look at the actual date

What usually happens is that if you haven't got a tax code you are taxed at the 22% rate & the company presumes you have worked all the (tax) year. As soon as you get a code it works itself out. All PAYE assumes you will work all year.
