I remember watching this when I was little. I vaguely recall getting excited by Future World and Medieval World and not really understanding what was special about Industrial World. I don't think I liked Aztec zone much either. I think I just identified it with beaches where adults just wanted to lie around and not do anything. Also, there was a strange bald man prancing around a lot who turns out to have been Richard O'brien.

Heart-breaking piece in the article:

"Industrial's quite interesting because it's almost like a period set now," Dillon says.

"There's so few elements from the original in daily life now. So much industrial landscape has disappeared, we don't do industry so much in this country anymore."

"So its almost like a period thing now that you look back on and go, 'oh yes, that's what it used to be when you went to a factory or an industrial landscape.'"

Wonder how long it will be before the BBC is forced to apologise for "Cultural Appropriation" with Aztec Zone? :D :/

Looking forward to this, sounds like they've put a lot of effort in to it and the sets look great. Shame O'brien isn't doing it but at the same time i like Richard Ayoade so fingers crossed it'll bring back that crystal maze magic with a modern flavour :)

I hope they don't ruin this. The one-off Crystal Maze they did a few months back was poor. The sets are looking great!

I used to love it, O'brien made it though. It had a charm and an edge about it that ITV or the BBC probably wouldn't have managed. The whole weird relationship with Mumsy in the Medieval zone...what was that all about!

I'll give it a whirl but it saddens me that todays talent can't come up with new ideas and take us to new and exciting places.

More Channel 4 tosh though I might look at it after the 'celeb' version. Soon as celebrity is mention in connection with a TV program is an immediate turn off, more so with Channel 4 as anybody and everybody is a celebrity.

Such a shame that it's going to be with z-list 'Celebs' ... it would have been so much better with real punters who aren't doing it to simply promote their 'brand' under the guise of charity.

Not a huge fan of Richard Ayoade, hopefully he's better than Ed Tudor-Pole.
Won't match up to Richard O'Brien though.

Still, Crystal Maze is back. :D

I wonder if they will have upgraded the prizes on this. I seem to remember the top prize for getting like a million gold tickets was something like an orienteering weekend for two in the New Forest with free use of the local spa facilities. I also wonder if they are going to stick with using the title music of I, Claudius for the intro theme of the show.

I was always a big fan of the original Crystal Maze. The idea of it returning was great news to me...

But then I heard Richard Ayoade mentioned and immediately gave not a single toss. I'd rather watch reruns of The Interceptor... hell, I'd rather be in The Interceptor!!

Hows about resurrecting Treasure Hunt! Think of the options for a massive upgrade in quality there would be these days compared to Anneka Rice's backside, it would basically be porn.
