That would probably cut me too - even now. Your hair might not grow in a straight line down to your chest, so it's better to study the grain and then shave along it on the first pass (WTG), even following the swirly bits. Then across the grain, then against - if you want to. I find that going against the grain is actually unnecessary and usually brings the possibility of discomfort, so I don't do it unless I have a new blade or lots of time on my hands.

Merkur 25C Long Handled Classic (Open Comb). It's the only one I've tried, but I love it and not sure how it could get better.

At the moment a Fatip head on a UFO Kaiser short handle.

I just pick whatever i fancy using from my favourite razor box.

Razors: English Aristocrat #15 & #16, Merkur Progress, English Red Tip Rocket.
Heads: 40's English Tech, Weber DLC, Fatip, R41 '13, Old type, New Improved, NEW SC, English NEW LC (Gillette's all Rhodium)
Handles: Weber Bulldog, UFO Kaiser Short

I cant remember when i used any of my other razors, i have loads of them.

Only had Derby Extras and Astras with my starter pack, and much prefer the Derbys.

A 3-pass shave is almost as good as my Profusion, but at a considerably lower price-point.

It's commonly known that the upfront costs will be more high but afterwards much much cheaper than cartridges. I can't look until later (at work) but I am sure someone in the mean time will find something around that budget.

Keeping it trim! I need advice, the hairs around my upper lip are starting to bug me. What do men with those huge bushes for mustaches use to trim their rainbows of hair with?

This is what I started with: a sub-£30 Merkur from Shaving Shack, some free blades (they give them away - check their deal), a £5 Wilkinson Sword supermarket brush (which is okay to make a start with), plus a Palmolive shaving stick for about 50p - again, from supermarkets. Perhaps a cheap shaving oil, too. All of that makes a very cheap kit that, although not as good as the luxurious brands, still gives a solid impression of what DE shaving is like.

If you like it all, you can keep the nice Merkur razor and upgrade the rest at leisure. You haven't wasted much money if it turns out to not be your thing and can sell on the Merkur.

Also check out Beauty at Creightons - their stuff is very cheap and rather nice. Use the MAR30 code.

i will provide you with some links to what i have found to be the best and cheapest most effective shaving products since i started a few months ago. 1st up is the razor and shave soap ( from same place competitive pricing)

brush - grosvenor badger and bristle ( amazing for 10.99 with 10 free feather blades)
