Not to mention the loss of value from British companies in the first few hours of trading would have probably secured our EU membership for the next few years.

It's nice to see people don't bat an eyelid when 120 billion has been wiped out, but they'll still moan that the 350million a week could be put to better use.
It's not just about money ffs

Come on, all together now!!

The leaders committed a cardinal sin,
opened the borders let them all come in,
illegal immigrants in every town,
stand up and be counted Blair and Brown

Oh yes! When we take charge,
and the new Prime Minister is Farage,
We can trade with the world again,
When Nigel is at Number Ten.

But leaving the EU will not stop the immigrants. Not the legal ones; not the illegal ones.

So people voted leave because they were fed up with the Tories even though it's going to result in maximum Tory?

Cameron is going to look like a socialist in comparison to who comes next!!

Yes, they did. And I don't look forward to the result.

You may have failed to notice the wave of anti-authority that is sweeping the western world. Symptoms include Jeremy Corbyn, Bernie Sanders, The Trump, and voting Leave to teach that ******* Cameron a lesson.

It's not going back to pre referendum levels any time soon.

But it will likely be stronger than it is now, in the not too distant future.

I love how the remain lot think that some kind of iron curtain is going to be erected between us and the EU just because we voted out.

I don't understand this either. Sure, some things may be more difficult, but we are such a huge market for many countries, they won't want to upset us.

This isn't what's happened. You'll be able to go and live wherever you want in Europe, the red tape will be minor, if there's any at all.

The reality is, most British people don't want to go and live abroad, despite what they might say.

Correction, the kind of people who voted to leave the EU (working class, unskilled poorer folk who are scared oflosing their jobs to unskilled immigrants) are the type of people who would never be ABLE to live and work abroad, so they don't care about it.

The way people are acting all over social media (and here) to each other is the most disappointing part of this whole thing...

Seeing people who have never shown any interest or engaged in politics in any way get caught up in the propaganda of one side or the other and tirelessly crap on at each other, trying to aggressively force their views on everyone... and now that the result is out simply resorting to name calling and arrogant statements rather than accept the fact that it didn't go their way...

It's incredibly short-sighted to assume that every leave voter did so purely because they are racist and want to get rid of immigrants... Or to suggest that to vote that way they must be completely "retarded" etc... Please all just try and get over yourselves a bit, it's embarassing

100% agree with this.

The FT's thoughts on the result:

I feel very lucky that I had the privilege to work all over Europe in my 20s and early 30s. It made me a better person, with a broader perspective on life. It's a shame that a new generation won't have the same level of opportunity. Britain will be poorer for it.

You do know you can work in other countries anyway, you don't have to be in a fiscal union with them, all you need is a visa and they're not all that hard to come by, particularly for Brits

I do not understand how people have missed this. A protest vote that will now result in a more right wing conservative government.

No. When people voted to join in the 1970s they had no idea it was going to lead to loss of sovereignty and the utter nonsense we have today. Trying asking some people who voted in the 1970s.

This referendum is the first time since 1970 that we have had a chance to decide whether we want to be in or out. And the people have voted OUT. Quite clearly.

Just under half the population who voted do not think it is quite so clear; however, we are where we are, and I really really hope that whoever leads the negotiations does a good job. They have a massive task on their hands, and I hope for all our sake that we've not just made a very big mistake.

My heart says it is a mistake. I won't be surprised if we fall into heavy recession, suffer heavy unemployment, see the NHS brought even further to its knees, and immigration to still be mishandled by our dear leaders. I'm also expecting the Tories to have a field day deconstructing all of the EU laws that offered workers much greater protection, increased consumer rights, etc etc.

Let's not also forget that this now has a extremely high chance of being the catalyst for the break up of the UK.

We're now in a situation where we've undone 40 years of progress, staring into the abyss. I do not have faith in our own government to guide us away from that. I honestly hope I'm completely wrong.
