1. Lancia Delta Integrale - Can't see how people can say bad comments about this car, one of the fastest point to point cars ever, Extremely quick round corners, great aggressive lines. Would show an Escort Cossie a thing or two down a back road as well as 95% of other cars.
as a standard product you're dead right.
the Lancia is better than the Ford.
throw a few quid at both cars and i believe the balance changes though.

the Ford is more reliable than the Lancia though and it didn't have the factory fitted rust that Lancia gave all their cars either.

God I'd hate to try and put them in an order but I've driven a 106 rallye 1.3 (amazing), own an R5GTT and loved the 205gti 1.6.

Next car will be a clio williams or clio 172 but can't rate them yet as havent driven either.

Evo hothatch review

The williams was slightly quicker than the phase 1 172 around a small track :o
Posts an excellent 0-100-0 for it's age and dosn't have the ebil rear end of the 205gti. Meant to handle somewhere inbetween the golf and 205 with a more powerfull engine (ooh I want one now)

evo - figures

1220kg, unless it’s the rare Dakar version. Yes, light for a 4WD rally type, but we’re talking hot hatches, and relative to my ideal for a hot hatch. Having owned both GTi-R and Sunny GTi, the extra 120kg of the R makes a significant difference, making it feel more like a mid-weight car, which is getting away a smidge from the nippy, effortlessly chuckable handling, which for me defines a hot hatch. Just my preference ;)

Mine was 1190kg then, cos I took out the aircon lol :D

1. Honda Civic Type R EK9 - out performs all of the above
2. Honda Civic Vti (EK) - out performs all of the above
3. Honda Civic Vti (EG) - out performs all of the above
4. Honda Civic Vti (EF) - out performs all of the above
5. Ford Escort Cossie - the only ford ill buy

Biased....maybe? I own a civic ek vti and nothing matches it, its not all hyped up by the tv shows like half of the cars you mentioned but those top 4 will outperform most of them cars at most things.

saxo vts!
no way 306 gti6 should be on there and that removed!

Nowt up with the VTS was a true mass selling hot hatch for its time, basic and quick much like the car that started it all off..... Umm the Mk1 Golf GTI so the VTS stays, 306 is to lardy anyways compaired to the saxo.

I've only chosen 4 as these are what I have had and are based purely on fun and entertainment value.

Although my modded montego turbo was a laugh aswell

1. Astra GTE 16v
2. Peugeot 205 1.6gti
3. Escort mk1 rs turbo
4. VW Golf gti 16v

I've owned one and had my pants pulled down by numerous hot hatches already listed in this thread.

You need to drive something European, The Japanese make fast cars, Europeans make cars with character and they generally are more fun to drive.

1. Mondeo Ghia X V6
2. Mondeo ST24
3. Mondeo ST200
4. Mondeo ST220
5. Mondeo 2.0 16v Ghia X

Seems it's now turned into 'name your favourite cars that are hatchbacks or have a hatch for a boot' rather than 'best hot hatches of all times' so there is my input :p
