Transferring money to the USA?

    I need to transfer about $1000 to someone in the USA, apart from Paypal what are the other options and rough costs for doing this?

    I'll call the bank tomorrow to see how much they'd charge to wire it, but I wondered if anyone had an idea.

    Western Union is not an option.

    I have done a bank wire transfer ( and international money order ) for similar amounts , charge was about £30

    Yup, that's about what I'd expect to pay. I did one in the opposite direction a few years ago (for a smaller amount).

    Yeah HSBC who i bank with charge me around £30 for any amount i transfer over to my canadian bank account...usually i transfer a big lump sum ie about £5k a month....as transferring small amounts wouldnt be viable for me.

    i remember the last time i did it, the charge was about 25quid. It sounded about the easiest way to do it without messing about with paypal and the like. Only worth it for reasonable sums of money though
