What haters don't get about these movies is that they are the sum of their parts.

Transformers are stupid plastic toys and the movies are $100m+ 2 hour long toy commercials so what you inevitably end up getting is a massively dumb, hollow and soulless pair of films which I find very entertaining.

The second film is absolutely terrible which is why I like it so much. Its horrifically messy, it just throws random stuff at you, it has eye-popping visuals and CGI and the most drawn-out nonsensical plot ever. It's brilliant basically.

I think G.I. Joe is a good comparison of another toy franchise movie that turned out much the same (i.e. atrocious).

Transformers was 2 hours of robots kicking the **** out of each other...

Transformers 2 was more of the same.

As long as you leave your brain at the door and look forward to a couple of hours of geeky cool-ness, you will love it, like I did.

Hell, even my GF likes it (but thats cos Megan Fox is her woman crush :))

whilst not the best, it was certainly enjoyable for its jokes, effects and general easy to watch popcorn movie. i loved both purely for this reasonm, they made me laugh, and i loved the action. nowhere near worst movies.

worst movie of last year goes to The Box, quite some piece of trash by david kelly who yet again is trying to ride his donnie darko train 10 years down the line or whatever. possibly Twilight New Moon being the 2nd, im easy to any movie to pass the time, but twilight new moon even had me face palming at the shocking acting, writing and story telling. its only saving grace being that the wolves were kind of cool in thier special effects movement and the soundtrack is pretty much 2nd to none (grizzly bear, thom yorke, bon iver etc)

I enjoyed the film a lot the only annoying thing i find with CGI these days it the dam fast camera angles and you can't see who is killing/beating who.

the first one is still on my fav movies production wise, the sound was excellent, same guy that did the saving private ryan sound, one of the best imo.

i was dissapoint with transformers 2 and i went to the imax in london to see... it was good but i agree went on a bit and the story was cheesy. still enjoyed it though.

This is the problem I found with both films. The camera is was too close to the action. Another problem was that because I'm not a hardcore Transformers fan, I was finding it difficult to distinguish between each robot, during the fight scenes, where were happening at lightning fast speed, with the camera close to the skin of the robots.

The above made it impossible for me to even care about what was going on during the fight.

I think the only 2 robots which stood out were Optimus Prime (blue and red) and Bumble Bee (yellow) - my fave robot.

Megan Fox for the win :)

I'm not sure what the facination is with her. Yes she is OK to look out, but if you goto any of the 100s of porn sites available on the internet, you get to see better looking women, with better bodies, going "all the way".

There are certainly a few things which I have learnt by following this thread - people rate movies by different parameters. Myself, I rate a movie purely on storyline, screenplay, script, acting, special fx, action, in that order. However, there are many people in this thread who rate special fx and action ahead of storyline/script. In fact there are people who seem to like the film based purely on the attractiveness of the actors in the movie, which has surprised me a lot.

My idea of good movie making is chapter 1 of Inglourious Barsterds - those 10-15 minutes of film were absolutely mesmorising - the story, the setting, the script, the acting, the direction - off the top of my head, I don't think I've seen better. And not an attractive female or special effect in sight. Don't get me wrong, I love special FX - Terminator2 and Matrix are 2 of the best films I've ever seen, but special fx used badly ruin a film.

On the case of CGI, anyone else notice at the end when Sam and Mikaela are running towards the camera at the end and the explosions happen behind them that their is some graphics corruption and the explosions appear in front of them?

Yeah thats 100% bang on what i was saying about the camera angles you go through half the film taking in the story (i'm glad they added more houmor) and a fight sence comes along and you're there thinking ...what happen ..oohh he is dead! :( So glad they didnt kill off Optimus though

I agree with you there are Loads of better women out there that have gone further in films etc. She is just eye candy i know that much but she does have a certin wow'ness to her. Probably the same as any new eye candy that is trying to make it in hollywood.

and totally agree with you for chapter 1 for IB - it was epic :)
