Hi guys; I'll try and keep it to the point, so here's my problem:

A pensioner friend has an ancient desktop computer (9 yrs old) that the OS got corrupted so he gives me his IDE HD to check and format; I wipe it, dskchk and format and give him back.
He changes boot order in bios to his genuine Vista DVD and tries to install. It loads files and gets to 'select language' screen but then a black screen and nothing.
All connections checked, boot order checked etc; restart from DVD and gets Bootmgr not found.

I've just been round his place to try to sort it but getting the same thing .... re-checked connections, jumper settings, bios boot order etc but it still gives the same message.

My first guess is that his DVD drive is bad so I'll take my external and retry but was wondering if I had missed anything obvious?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
