Could this not have been announced 2 years ago?

Have they only just realised?

As they say, it's taken them a long time
A: not much left evidence wise
B: Due to the Salisbury poisonings, it's made countries look into unexplained ' accidents ' which as this place was involved with armaments headed to Ukraine then they probably thought they would look into it in more detail after all things going on and Russian aggression in the area.

Pretty sure that Control F someone's name in a database doesnt take 2 years though.

Its almost coincidental that this is being reported just when we need to generate some anti Russian pr.

No you are right, it's a conspiracy to show Russia as some kind of evil dictatorship that's building up to invade a neighbouring country again whilst using nuclear grade materials to poison people in Europe, but I guess they to are just anti Russian pr right?

Also have you actually read as to why it's taken up to now? or do you go around sites spamming pro Kremlin propaganda?

Explain why they would do it?

All praise strong leader Putin who will lead us back to the glory days of the USSR eh comrade.

haha, who thinks this guy is a paid russian bot?
Why because he asked a legitimate question? I doubt it.

Seriously if you think that's the type of stuff the the paid trolls come out with you've obviously never seen any of their posts, I was arguing with one on another forum who was trying to assert that that the eastern Ukrainian rebels never had access to any Buk units and claims they did were western propaganda, even after I linked him the picture of one of their Buk units the rebels posted on their official twitter account xD

Just going on their previous pro Russian bias etc.
I'm beginning to think every Russian believes the propaganda eg as they seem to be in every forum coming out with crap.

wouldnt they just hop over the border no need for id

Then what happens if they get caught hopping over the border with no ID and get found out to be working for Russian intelligence and something bad has happened, will cause even more outraged and fallout.

Or you can try to do the travel with false ID etc with much more chance of deniability and getting away as we have witnessed with Russia with the two agents

probably the least of their worries then they are willing to assassinate someone on British soil.

be kinda dumb though to send the same agents to different countries with the same passports and names? especially when I doubt the Ukraine border is that hard to cross in 2014

they get caught for one thing and you basically have a big list of times/places they were in countries so you can cross reference it with events and find out basically everything they did.

I very much doubt they were using the same aliases, these are intelligence officers.
Just a poorly organised assassination that has led other countries to check up and see if they have been active elsewhere after they got caught.

No conspiracy.

this link to Janes has some additional details regarding what hardware and units the Russian armed forces have either moved, or are in the process of moving to the Russia/Ukrainian border
(although Janes is a subscription-only site the free element of the report contains the significant info)

https://www.janes.com/defence-news/...siles-identified-at-ukrainian-border-by-janes

Current indicators suggest it is unlikely the forces deployed to the border are in an offensive posture. But this could change if Russia continues to move forces to the Ukrainian border.

Don't really agree with that - while they aren't moving up to forward staging areas ready for an offensive the configuration of units and equipment is by far primarily offensive focussed with brigades/battalions with previous offence experience picked over, in some cases, more convenient divisions with defensive experience and configuration (EDIT: Obviously it isn't always that simple when you have more concerns than just Ukraine in terms of overall troop availability for deployment).

Putin appears to need a short, victorious conflict if he's to stem negative opinion in Russia at this point. I sincerely hope the West has given Ukraine the ability to ensure that doesn't happen.

Most commentators seem to think the next 3 days will be a bit more revealing on the Putin front.

The configuration is distinctly odd though - you have quite a bit of specialised hardware or other measures observed you wouldn't bother with for an exercise but nothing like the build up* so far that would be needed for significant military action against Ukraine but it has moved well on from what you'd expect to see just for political reasons. The setup is kind of poised in limbo.

* Even taking into account that they can rapidly move units in from the wider area if things do move forward.
