Hi all. I have a creator trx40 motherboard and a 3990x cpu arriving in a couple of days. Ive read that the 3990 is only supported with the latest bios. Since i ordered mobo before cpu was even released, its highly possible it won't have the latest bios.

Given i am hardly likely to have another threadripper knocking around, is there a way to do a bios update if the cpu isnt supported? I know asus have this feature.. But asrock? Nothing in the manual..

Edit: found this on the asrock website, seems to be what i need, although it doesnt specify if it needs a working cpu to function:

I would suggest that the Instant Flash utility can only load after post, and if the 3990 is unsupported therefore causing the motherboard to refuse to post, then you won't be able to update the BIOS using this method.

You need something like what is shown in the following link:
https://www.asrock.com/support/faq.asp?id=447

Basically some boards have a BIOS programmer on board, which is activated by a small BIOS 'Flashback' switch at the rear whilst the board is in standby mode and after inserting a USB stick that has been pre-loaded with whichever BIOS you wish to upgrade to. This stick has to be inserted into a very specific USB port on the back, as you can see in the link. It also needs to be formatted with the FAT32 file system and the BIOS also needs to have a certain file name.
