I bought the item 2nd hand and sim free. It was also deregistered and I have managed to get everything working "hunky dorry". however, if I update the os from 4.2 to the latest software etc does anybody know if the change could alter the sim-free status of the phone? Thank you.

You should be fine, I've updated my sim free blackberries countless times. They're all still. Sim free, unlocked.

By sim-free I ment it was previously on 02 but is now on orange so maybe I should have said unlocked. :)

No the OS updates have nothing to do with your unlocked status of the phone ie updating to a new OS wont re-lock the phone.

And the 8900 comes with 4.5 OS so you could update to the latest OS 5 which is much better imo.
