Well was looking at finally upgrading after playing quake live on my surface pro and realising £1400 quid on new PC - maybe not yet.

I have a core i7 920, and Radeon HD 4800 series on a PCI Express 2. Seems to have 1024Mb GDDR5.

So I think the i7 would be ok, and from what I can gather a 1050Ti or RX 480 seem my best bet for a simple GPU upgrade to keep me going...?

thank you

Forget the 1050ti because at this price point of roughly £150 right, you can get this below.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £159.89 (includes shipping: £9.90)

Yeah at this price point it is either the 1050ti or the rx 570.

Get the rx 570 over the 1050ti because the rx 570 is more faster giving you much more needed frames per second you see.

This link below roughly gives you at the very least an idea on what to expect.

https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-1050-Ti-vs-AMD-RX-570/3649vs3924

If you can wait then just get the rx 570 because ryzen 3000 series of processors are coming out soon in a span of prehaps 6 months time from now which would be ryzen apus which is what you do not want.

Yea if you do get the rx 570 nitro by Sapphire it will be a quantum leap over the amd 4800 series graphics card you have plus i think that your processor may bottleneck it but i do not know how much though.

Either way bottleneck or not, the rx 570 is the one i get if i was you but however what power supply do you have because the 1050ti by nvidia is power supply friendly because it draws less power from the power supply you see.

Dan.

First Gen , even at i7 is quite old. Between 2nd/3rd gen there was a big jump in performance gains .
Went from 4ghz i7 860 to 5.1ghz 7600k i5 and notice gains of 10fps plus on different cards and resolutions.

Even grabbing ryzen 2600 and B450 should be more future proofed personally .
Don't have to spend £1000+ for a good core upgrade :)

Rx570 would be a great GPU to step up to on current rig .

rx570 or stretch the budget a little to an rx580 then visit the x58 thread and spend £20-40 for a Xeon x5650 to x5675 for 6 core 12 threads. Easy to get over 4ghz and won't bottleneck either of those GPU's.
