i want to make full copy of a backup to an external esata disk every 28 days to take offsite.

i created a repository set to rotated media on the esata drive.

the backup copy job (configued for every 28 days) works and creates a full copy..

i take that drive offsite and replace with a blank disk ready for next 28 day period.

veeam immediately creates a backup copy on the external media. (doesnt wait 28 days)

if i leave the media in, veeam respects the 28 day period.

so it seems that the backup copy period is only respected if the media is kept in.

is this expected behaviour. is there any way around this?

Looks like expected behavior:

For backup copy jobs:

  1. Veeam Backup & Replication creates a regular backup chain on the currently attached drive.
  2. When you swap drives, and the attached drive is empty, Veeam Backup & Replication creates a full backup on it. If there is a backup chain on the drive, Veeam Backup & Replication creates a new incremental backup and adds it to the backup chain. The latest incremental backup existing in the backup chain is used as a starting point for the new incremental backup.
