Started driving in 1998. Have a long list of mostly mediocre cars with a couple of nicer ones. Owned the BMW 635 the longest, but it was a money pit. Spent more time on low loaders than on the road, but it's still the best looking car BMW ever made.
Quite a bit of the list overlaps, but it's mostly in order I bought purchased them.

I tend to keep my cars longer now than I used to, but I’ve got through a few.

1986 Metro 1.0 first car. Put on a spoiler and painted the wheels black
1990 Escort 1.3L. Stuck on a set of RS Turbo alloys.
1990 Orion Ghia 1.6i. Used the same RS alloys, and got the matching kit to go with it
1992 Escort 1.6S. Had Mondeo cosworth style 5 spokes and RS 2000 bumper and lights and a Jetex exhaust
1991 Mini Cooper 1380 fully modded with twin carbs and a straight cut gearbox and drop gears. It sounded awesome.
1991 Escort 1.6 estate used as a run around after selling the mini
2002 BMW E46 318ti. Just an AC Schnitzer exhaust on this I started to have a second car when I had this for something to play with
2004 BMW E46 320D sport touring. Just changed the wheels and stuck on some Whiteline anti roll bars.
2007 BMW 520D sport. Just AC Schnitzer springs and 17x10 contours for summer and 17x9 Z3M alloys for winter.
2010 BMW E91 320D Msport. Just wheels on this. 17x9 style 5 BBS for summer 17x9 E39 sport for winter. Had this about 6 years now.

After getting BMW’s as main cars, I started to have a second car I didn’t need to rely on to play about with. They are
1994 JDM Nissan S13 180SX with a Sil80 conversion. This had a roll cage, 2 way LSD many different alloys and kits. I even imported a Rocket Bunny spoiler from Japan for it.
1999 JDM Nissan S15 Silvia spec R. This had the full factory body kit. It was fairly standard, but I did have it on coil overs and upgraded the brakes to Skyline GTR ones. I had a variety of wheels for it, but mainly ran a set of 17x9.5 Corvette C4 sawblades on converters.
1999 JDM Skyline R34 GTT 4 door. Loved this being a 4 door, as a lot of people didn’t realise you could get them. It was a factory GTT as well, not a poverty spec one with a R33 engine put in it. It was auto converted to manual though.
1995 BMW E36 M3. Still got this, had it around 7-8 years now. As much as I liked the turbo Nissans, I wanted to have a M BMW after having BMW’s as my main car for a while.

I’ve also got a bike license, but have only had a couple.
2000 Suzuki SV650. Pretty much stripped this and changed the shock and exhaust
2012 Triumph Street Triple 675. Still got this.
1955 Velosolex 660 Great fun for playing with. I did have thoughts of buying an electric bike wheel hub and making it a hybrid.

I’m the same with biking. Still like my cars but love the simplicity of a bike that’s now missing from modern cars.

That’s part of the charm of my E36 as well. It’s from a time when cars were advanced enough, but not overly reliant on technology. You don’t need to worry about having bits coded to the car to work or anything like that.

The Renault 19 16v felt next level fast.
I remember feeling genuinely nervous as a passenger. (Cornering speed)
I missed it quite a bit, except the really annoying habit it had of just dying randomly at traffic lights or train crossings, even blipping throttle to keep revs up wouldn't help.

'97 Renault Clio biratz 1.2 - Crap

'97 BMW 318i SE (binned in within 3 months due to driving like an absolute moron)

*couldn't afford to drive for a couple of years due to said binning

'00 Citroen Saxo 1.1 with weird multicolour seatbelts. Massive heap of crap, worst car I've ever owned.

'00 Rover 25 1.4 impression with 101bhp mod! Great car TBH. Yeah, HGF! But after that, cost me nothing.

'04 MG ZR 2.0TD... should have kept the rover, this one was not anywhere near as good to me :(

'03 Toyota Celica T-sport 190bhp. Cost me next to nothing to buy and never needed any work doing. Best value car I've owned. Really miss it tbh. It was such a great drive but became tiring on the motorway every day quite quickly.

'05 Subaru Legacy 3.0R Spec-B estate. The 3l flat six is fantastic! The cost of ownership has been absolutely ruinous though. Should have been a reliable car, but mine has been anything but, and 25MPG doesn't help either. Probably going to get shot soon and get something mundane.

My list driving since 2004

1989 Renault 5 TL - First car it was free with 49 bhp! And a manual choke

1996 Toyota Paseo - bought it from a friend, you didn't see many of these on the road.

2000 Nissan 200SX - rebuilt the engine in this there is a thread on here somewhere documenting the whole process

Time to grow up :(

2004 Volvo S60 D5

Felt the need for some more performance and had the means to.

2005 Ford Mondeo ST220 - always wanted one of these however I didn't get along with it, got rid within a month

2005 Volkswagen Golf GTI - This was great fun to own reliable too

Time to sample a executive car

2010 Mercedes CLS 350 Grand Edition - superb wafty goodness, was great for the mileage I was doing at the time. It was however not that reliable lots of suspension repairs during my ownership and engine sensor issues.

After the last £1000 repair bill it was time to get rid that brings us to present day.

2014 Volkswagen Golf GTD

Had it since 2017 it does everything I could need. I anticipate a replacement on the cards soon, mileage has dropped off a cliff since the pandemic and will probably remain low afterwards, and with kid and a hope for more children in the near future i am thinking performance estate, Audi S4 Avant or Mercedes C43 AMG

I think I must have one of the shortest lists. Living and working in London after Uni didn’t really require a car so I only past my test in 2005 and bumped and scratched company pool cars and hire cars for a bit.

2006 BMW 120D
2009 Mercedes C220cdi
2011 Mercedes E350cdi
2014 Lexus GS450h

2017-18 - BMW M140i
2018-20 - VW Up
2019-20 - 997 911 GTS cab
2020-present - BMW M340i touring
