Very vague song request from misheard lyrics

    Um, I heard a song last night and I want to identify it. I heard the lyrics as "Pick me up, joanna pick me up" but obviously that isn't correct because I've tried google. It sounds like it's sung by a black guy with a caribbean-ish accent i think...

    Anyone have any idea what I'm on about?

    Edit: The lyric is 'Give me hope' btw, which is why you had trouble. (or gimme, if we're being pedantic)
