Hi all I've just been doing a general tidy-up and I found a bottle of Vicks First Defence Nasal Spray at the back of a drawer. A year ago, a family member bought it for me. I consider myself a sceptic and the idea that someone could invent a spray to prevent the common cold seems a bit ludicrous. Surely a working common cold prophylactic would have elicited a massive world-wide response, and a few scientific papers scrutinising it... Apparently the spray "targets the area deep inside the nasal cavity where cold germs first take hold and multiply...trapping cold causing germs and helping your body remove them naturally." So what is this stuff; a miracle cold-preventative agent, or a snake oil placebo?
