Hi all,

Been about 5 years since I built my last PC from OcUK - PC is now in the hands of my dad and I have been using a laptop for years. Time to go back to a desktop.

I bought a Sony HD Camcorder at Xmas to be a typical camcorder dad to make cheesy videos of my 10 month year old son to show to his prospective girlfriends in the years to come. So I want to be able to edit this. I will be getting a licensed copy of Adobe Premier from work, so the main grunt of the work the PC will do is using this. I used to love a bit of Day of Defeat and never really converted to an XBox for Modern Warfare, so to be able to play these would be nice. Not on highest settings, but playable.

Been having a look at the Intel & AMD chips, and was swaying towards the Core i processors from Intel, but then I read about the Llano. Thought might give me better graphics processing without spending on an expensive gfx card.

Ram seems to be so cheap it would be rude not to get 8gb.
Monitor - like the look of this monitor.
Keyboard / Mouse needs to be included, just budget ones as will get my razor mouse and keyboard off my dad and swap!

Thoughts on spec would be apreciated...

I would maybe opt for something with a little more "Grunt" for video editing, maybe try and get a second hand Quad/Hex core,

Checkout Members Market......

Only My personal opinion but I think the Llano is a little lightweight and longevity value is poor.

Thanks for the link to the CPU charts. I did look at Toms Hardware Charts - but they are a little dated!

Will look at that pentium, cost is pretty much the same as I forgot the DVD drive. Thanks, and will check out the MM, didn't even think about that - duh!

The A8-3870K is a quad core - in HB an A8 3850 beats my Core i3 2100:

If you shop around a 95W Phenom II X6 1045T can be had for under £100.

The Pentium dual core is to be avoided if you intend to do any video work(look at the chart) and moreover encode quality with CUDA is not necessarily great either.

The Core i3 2100 does have Quick Sync functionality which is useful but remember video encodes done on the CPU are still better quality.

However, both the new generation 28NM AMD and Nvidia GPUs have dedicated video encoding hardware - AMD Trinity has this too and it is meant to be much more flexible than first generation Quick Sync. Second generation Quick Sync looks quite decent but the IB Core i3 CPUs will be out only in Q3 2012 AFAIK. Trinity is meant to be out next month so hopefully we shall be able to see how it performs soon.
