Just took out a Virgin Broadband package and considering cancelling in my 14 Day Cooling Off Period. Had Virgin in this property before, two years ago, with no issues. Now i'm getting consistent disconnections (4 today so far) When I run the Service Checker it says that there is interference on the signal coming in to the home but I get no option to book an engineer out to try and sort anything. Do I need to call them directly? Has anyone else had any similar issues? or do I just phone up, complain and try and get an engineer out? Connected to the SH3 via Cat5.

Either use the web chat, forum or phone up and they'll book an engineer to come out.

Just got a nice £75 cheque in the post from Virgin, after settling a compliant about a promotional discount not being given after it being listed on my order. Good job I rechecked all my bills when I cancelled or I would have been out of pocket. :)

In other news, my sub £4 per month Unlimited Three SIM is now in a 5G router, and I'm getting over 400Mbps down and 60Mbps up with a 20ms ping on WiFi. :D

Edit: Have been messing about and had over 700 Mbps down, will do some further testing when I don't need the internet.

That 5G is great.
I'm on the edge of the 5G area and sucks :(

That one paid off then :)

First one in a good while. :D You should look at the masts near you on cellmapper.net and look to see what is near by, and which providers have their 5G roll out in progress, there is usually at least one of the 4, unless you are in the middle of literally nowhere.

Although getting £75 from Virgin was also a big win (IMO).

Thanks for the link.

Yes I'm on the edge of the 5G mast. And I have two 4G masts closer.
Maybe that's why I can't get 5G?

Just battled the beast as they wanted £47 a month for M200, with an enticing offer of M200 for £50 (£3 more!) per month if I re-contracted.

As soon as I rang up, they offered £6.50 off a month for 6 months with no new contract.

After sitting through several holds and getting escalated to retentions or whatever:

First line offers:
M100 £35
M200 £41

Second line offers:
M50 £22
M100 £31

I downgraded to M50 at £22 a month.

18 months at £22 plus inflation increases?

Can you not get FTTC in your area at decent speeds?

You will see earlier in the thread in the past month that folks have got offers of 350Mb BB only for £24/month, though this is after putting in the cancellation and waiting for the call back.

I think one was on the second call back which you tend to get after declining the first. So £22 for 50Mb should be beaten quite easily with a call back from the Out Bound team (after you put in the cancellation).

Difference between Virgin over utilisation and an old copper line from BT...
With BT I get 72mb/s down and 18mb/s up. So i've barely lost anything in down speed, whilst gaining better upload and much better latency / consistency.

That's why I'm keeping my place in the cabinet for the first week after VM is installed. If it's a mess like the above I'll be reverting back to FTTC and exercising my right to cancel within the cooling off period.

It's so confusing that Virgin have done the difficult task of getting cables into the ground and then are happy to let their network perform like complete trash for months at a time. That sort of BQM graph above would make the connection completely unusable for anything except web browsing, downloading, and Netflix.

Pretty much. Video calls are awful when I'm speaking, my work VPN connection drops constantly, gaming I get random huge pings and packet loss. Like you said the headline download speed is fine but anything with multiple requests is bad.

Had several people from virgin confirm it was over utilisation and that they just keep moving the fix date two weeks ahead, till the issue resolved itself.

They'll soon not have a competitive advantage once fttp becomes more widespread and they'll have to start upping their game again.

Same as me Nutty, installed a connection monitor & a BQM and still getting disconnections and drop outs. Considering just cancelling to be honest instead of farting around. If I don't get an engineers visit booked on this call then i'm out.

Told me everything was fine on their end on the phone, told me to download an app to get an engineers visit. Now being transferred to cancellations.

And now they hung up on me. Scandalous.

I found I got the best support via their forum. Otherwise I'll pm your a retentions number they sent me which seems to have a short queue for cancelling.

I regularly got disconnected on the phone. Even had one idiot reset my router without telling me so I was double nat for a while...
