This is caused by having sidebar.exe running. It's no longer supported by Microsoft and has been breached by tons of viruses.

I had the e-crime one, made me chuckle, it was dead easy to remove. Go into safemode, remove the start up service (can't remember the name), locate the exe, delete, clear internet history (cookies) and job done.

I got this nasty from some site when I was site hoping for stable E3 2012 streams, MSE got most of the payload, and Malware bytes got the rest. Not before it had Encrypted a vast majority of my files though. The actual .exe spoofed it self as deamon tools with some odd file names (Which I dont ever use), and was undetected by anything.

There was still something left that i needed Kaspersky TDSSKiller to get rid of some rootkit afterwards. Encrypted files were recovered using Kaspersky rannohdecryptor, which required you have a backup of at least one file that was encrypted (as they will all use the same key). Whats interesting is that it took minutes to encrypt terrabytes of files, and a day or two to decrypt them.

I have since uninstalled Java since I noticed a fair few adds kept trying to load it for some reason, and it seems all java is good for these days is for spreading trojens.

tldr: Don't rely on anti-virus. Keep software patched.

That looks scarily believable :(

Only if you're naive

How would looking at child pornography scenes be acceptable once you have paid a £100 fine?

You can removed the above virus by running Malwarebytes from Safe Mode btw. I removed this malware from someone's computer the other day like that.

I had a an FBI one of the other day, was a bugger to get rid of. I went for the quick option and rebuilt my pc in the end (ok after a couple of virus scans i gave up).

Rebuilding your PC is a bit excessive to get a rid of malware.

A good ol' reinstall of windows should be the furthest you ever need to go.
