Vista/XP Dual Boot question

I have installed Vista, but am considering re-installing XP and dual booting.

Is it true my XP OEM key is basically invalid now I'm installed OEM Vista?

i.ve read you need to have the older o/s loaded first or else it wont allow the dual boot screen to appear.
