VR Build - Specifically DCS World £1700

Hello all,

Another one of those 2nd post, cap in hand, asking for help threads.

Ive been eyeing up VR for a while but coming in completely fresh is a little daunting. Theres a lot of information / opinions and its easy to get swamped.

So...i would like to build or have built:

Primarily (infact almost solely) for VR. I envision 90% of this being DCS world.
I have no intention of buying a monitor? Im boldly assuming i can output to a tv if others want to see whats going on? Could i apply the same logic for setup?
Would like to do some video editing on it. Use premier pro. My mac chugs on but is feeling the stress of higher quality video.
Somewhere up to £1700?

Looking at the rift if that makes a difference - have read a PCI-E usb card is required?

I looked at the 2 Sub 2k built to order options in the overclockers store? In both instances looked at upgrading the CPU and graphics to a 1080? No idea if these are pretty solid builds?

welcome, this is a self buld set up running top end of our budget . Case is antec that features HDMI Port at the front, GPU is flagship GTX 1080Ti Aorus that features internal HDMI port , which means you can run VR connections from the FRONT of the case instead of heaving to plug into the back - if VR needs to be packed away

not sure if antec rep @Ace Modder has pics of the case running this kind of set up ?

i7 8700 non K for gaming as its boosts 4.3ghz on all 6 cores and 12 threads will make adobe run smoothly! also saves cash for not selecting K version and Z board
Board features one of the best Wifi set ups if you need it or hate cables

I don't have any pictures of the P110 case with front HDMI /VR cables installed, but the port is much like a USB front I/O Port, you basically plug in the HDMI from the VR headset into the front of the case and then it provides a pass through to either a GPU with a internal HDMI port - there are a few on the market, or you can feed it out via the rear of the case and plug it into the rear GPU HDMI port. Basically makes it much more convenient so you don't have the hassle of plugging/unplugging the HDMI cables via the rear of the case.

It can be a pain depending on how/where your case is positioned/the layout of your desk. It also gives an extra 2ft of usable cable length - great for VR usage when you are walking/moving around in your office/room.

Thanks guys!!

Advice about the front hdmi port - things like that are gold and hadn’t even crossed my mind!

The WiFi board is also probabaly useful for moving around - Can see it being dragged into the front room for ‘party’ games.

Is there any great disparity amongst graphics card makers? Eg EVGA Vs Zotac? Or is best sticking to the big names? Im tempted to see if prime day yields an easy saving there though?

If you've got latest BT or Virgin router the. It's damn .good .

To be fair, most of the VGA makers are the big boys . Advantages of Aorus/gigabyte is UK rep support and can send card directly for RMA .
EVGA are sort after for second hand sales ( though US clamped down on this when mining shot up) and zotac have long warranty, but after 2/3 years it's in Hong Kong - buy from OCUK if going zotac !!!!!!!

VR front ports is a nice lazy man's game haha

Ha. It’s all about the lazy game. I don’t want to make VR a chore to use. Admittedly not an issue for me if I just want to be left alone and pretend to fly planes around but sure they’ll be some fun to be had watching drunk friends walk on imaginary planks off buildings.

That’s good to know about Uk support - a better to have than not to have I think.

Am I likely to have any cooling issues with either of those setups? Or would what’s recommended and decent airflow keep it happy.

Inno card will feel the heat, 2x 80mm fan and 2 slot design vs aorus 3x 100mm 3 slot design ... would hold higher boost for longer as Pascal is a very sensitive chap with temps! lower the better

also got the antec rep to pester if case has a scratch on it ( @Ace Modder ) :D

both cases should do well but above will no better then myself (lian li/in win and bequiet normally deal with but they havent suck a damn hdmi at the front and are expensive)

mines currently under water - actually not sure if i have picture with the stock fans on .. mm

only the xtreme has the version has the RGB backplate and 4 yr registered warranty £830- the standard £800 is 3 years and no rgb backplate

Ha! You had me at the front port but now I really can’t say no!
This is all looking like a go so far. Giving myself until the end of the month To make sure it’s not a super impulse buy. I’m also away and need pay day to come around again but the time should let me clear some space and hopefully grab a price drop or two.
