I have a Scirocco R that is coming up to its annual service and was wondering where the best place to get that done would be - Main Dealer, Specialist, etc.

My extended warranty states that 'You must make sure your vehicle is serviced in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations' but does not specify where that needs to take place... I'm not bothered about carrying on the MDFSH, my priority is getting the car looked after by someone who will care.

Based in Berkshire (M4 corridor area) but happy to travel, if necessary.

I've paid full price for a VW service because they picked it up and dropped it off. I've also got them to price match a specialist. Depends what you need really and how much you want to pay.

Not too fussed about the added extras, just want to make sure the car is properly looked after.

Car is a 2012 on around 43k miles, so just needs its annual service.

If you've not got a service plan then as long as genuine parts are used by whoever services it will not cause any warranty issues, part of EU legislation states you are free to have your car serviced at a place of your choice as long as genuine parts are used.
"The EC has Directed that a manufacturer warranty cannot be affected by a car being serviced outside the franchised dealer chain. (EU regulation (Motor Vehicle Block Exemption Regulation MVBER(EC) 1400/2002 ..."

Extended warranty is supplied by a 3rd party rather than the manufacturer so I would expect it is exempt from the EU rule.

Watch VW, they are like all others bent. Just before I sent my Polo GTI back I needed to get it serviced which was annoying but life. I called my local dealer and got through to some contact centre to book. I made it clear, "it's a lease car, it's a first service and it goes back the following week so give me bare minimum". I had a view this was circa £170 all in. No problem says young contact centre girl, booked. "Can I just check the price please". Yes, £299

Wait

What

"Yes, oil service and a special look around to make sure it's all good and nothing else needs doing".

"sksjjgfkl;dsafh fdslkhflds fldashjfs f asdlfjhdslkf ldsajf ;lsdfl;adjsflk; jadfs"

"Ah, OK, sorry Sir, I am stupid, in that case £158 all in"

I HATE HAAAATTTTEEEEEEE people who simply transmit.

so £158 for the lowest paid apprentice to do an oil change and a quick look around.

Thats if they even do an oil change.
A quick lifting of the dipstick will tell you if they have. In over 30 years of servicing cars only once has a dealer not done the oil change they said. Alfa Romeo Cheltenham please step up.

That's a bit skeptical. My VW dealer changes the oil AND does a video showing that my car has tyres... On each corner of the car no less. Well worth £180 of my employers money.
