I have and alienware at the moment. its got the i9 8950hk and 1080 with the 1440p screen.

the options avaliable this time are not all that. no 1440 screen for a start gets me and also no AMD option. the 3080 is the 150w option in the 17 right? i know the strix scar is 135 + 15
Yeah the 17r4 has the top version of the card which is 150w. At least the 1080 screen is 360Hz. Maybe we will see a 1440 screen when the 11th gen appears. I currently have a 4K screen on mine and it is ot for a 17inch screen. I suspect 1440 is probably is too.

I can get the strix for the same sort of price tho.. and it has the ryzen 5900hx cpu and the 3080 with the 135w gpu (i would guess there will be a way to lock it at the 150 tbh)

I just don't want a gimped system.. the alienware seems to be the go to at the moment.. but as you say its only 1080p which is a proper let down from them

It’s a strange choice but also one Razer seem to follow with their 17”. You can get the QHD with the 3060 and 3070, but 3080 it drops to 1080p.

What makes it even worse is that Alienware’s 17” 4K panel is still 60hz, (not 120hz like Razer) so even if you got the 4K and downscaled to 1440p, your refresh rate is still poop.

I wouldn’t touch Alienware laptops anyway, their Command Center software is awful.

Looking at the review of the g17 from asus the 5900hx and 3070 are in no way thermal limited.. I would have thought they would have been able to run a 135w +15 card in the strix scar :( and because its 115w.. how is the performance compared the the 135 and 150w cards. I know there is a sheet out there I just can't find it atm

I think I’m going to wait for now as see what else is released.

Tempted to go Asus for Zen3 but they don’t have any 17” QHD laptops available in the UK yet. Hopefully there are more options available by mid March.
