Hey guys, i do a lot of diy mechanicing and have done it all from a £30 amazon trolley jack :( its given up the ghost and barely gets my car off the floor. Plus ive wanted to do some bigger projects like dropping the transmission and changing the clutch etc. I cant realistically get a lift or build a pit so what are my jacking options for extensive driveway work? Obviously dont want to spend 1000's as im not a mechanic.

I've done all my car work, including full engine pull, clutch change (twice) off of normal jacks. What I have, however, are BIG axle stands (which if you aren't using - stop). The car gets very high off the ground that way and is safe. I have some like these along with several others: https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/prod...d4&gclid=CIjo5cGBleACFQZ2Gwod2hEK2g&gclsrc=ds

I want a lift but renting currently so not in a position to put one in!

Most of the jacks linked in this thread are effectively the same product - low entry, high lift, twin piston - probably mostly made in the same Chinese plant.

I have one that I think cost about £90, they're really good but also very heavy - as in, watch you don't give yourself a hernia picking it up heavy. Not the sort of thing to leave in the boot.

I'm tempted to build some low profile ramps... That get car up and sturdy high enough to get bits off without scraping my nose on the dirty underside ..

Not being funny but those aren't big, they are just normal ones.

I've had this jack for a couple of years and really like it.

https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/clarke-ctj2qlp-2-tonne-quick-lift-low-profile/

it's very heavy and a bit of a pig to carry around but is very solid and sturdy. Don't bother with the Clarke lightweight racing jack, it's garbage in comparison.

I’ve got one of those and it’s great. Got my minx high enough to drop the whole front beam out.

Also was low enough to actually get under it in the first place!
