GREAT calls by chrisd and Arcade Fire!

Also add Sultans of Swing, and instead of Slanted and Enchanted or Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain, I'd skip straight to Terror Twilight for a pavement record. Its more accessible, so once you "get" their sound, you can work your way back toward Slanted.

Sigur Rós - Agaetis Byrjun (instrumental/post-rock/space rock/Icelandic/awesome)

If you like that have you tried The Cocteau Twins? I'd recommend Heaven Or Las Vegas.

My Must haves are:

Come On Pilgrim - Pixies
Ritual de lo Habitual - Jane's Addiction
Incesticide - Nirvana
Black Cherry - Goldfrapp
Blood Sugar Sex Magik - Red Hot Chilli Peppers

plus loads that have already been mentioned!

the stone roses - the stone roses, probably the best debut album of all time
Yep that would be one of mine, as well as (not sure how well this will go down but) The Libertines - Up The Bracket. Also Origin of Symmetry by Muse, Absolution is probably as good as, if not better than Showbiz. I'd also say Dire Straits Sultans of Swing as well.

The Mars Volta - De-Loused In The Comatorium (one of my favourite albums ever)
Sigur Ros - Takk (Agaetis Byrjun has already been mentioned, but Takk is also an amazing work of art)
Opeth - Blackwater Park (easily their best imo)
Cursive - Cursive's Domestica (probably their best, but Semantics is pretty good too)
Rammstein - Sehnsucht (mmmmmm)
Explosions In The Sky - The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place (Memorial is probably my favourite post-rock song ever)
Bjork - Homogenic (was never really into Bjork, listened to this album, was blown away)
Boards Of Canada - Music Has The Right To Children (amazing chilled electronic ambience)
Radiohead - Kid A (their best album :p)
Isis - Celestial (one of the greatest post-rock bands ever)
Yaphet Kotto - Syncopated Synthetic Laments For Love (simply the best hardcore album released)
Tool - Aenima (as already mentioned)
Red Sparowes - At The Soundless Dawn (just mindblowing melodic post-rock)
Miles Davis - Kind Of Blue (I've been listening to this album a lot lately, it's pretty perfect)
Mastodon - Leviathan (metal defined.)

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. I'm into post-rock quite a lot lately, thanks to Big Chris :p

Have only seen the performance on Johnathan Ross and it is safe to say I was far less than impressed...

It's an extremely good album though regardless of live performance.
