I initially thought sparrowhawk too, due to an encounter I had with one last year.

I came out of my house to witness a sparrow hawk tearing the insides out of a pigeon (which was still alive) on my front steps. I stopped in my tracks, the sparrowhawk looked at me with cold steel eyes as if to say, "Yeah? And? You want your face pecking off, pal?".

So, I ran back in the house and watched it from the front window instead.

looks like the one that swoops down in our garden with its dinner in its talons.
I watched it plucking the feathers from a live sparrow before burying its beak into the poor buggers belly and ripping its guts out.
The same hawk brought down a young pigeon and ripped its head off right in front of my eyes, with ma and pa pigeon frantically flapping around the garden. It left a big trail of blood on the sleeper it perched on to feed. Couple of days later i found the skeletal wings of another of his/her meals behind our apple tree.
Back on topic.....looks like a sparrowhawk.
