That is the resonator for the airbox i think. Just liek the one i have on my Focus. Follow where the air goes into the airbox, if that part goes into the airbox before the air is filter, take the resonator off and rev the engine.

Well, I'd say so. Or else Ford wouldn't of fitted one in the first place.

As long as its before the air is filtered then it doent matter having it on or off one bit.

All it does is make the engine quieter when you put down large amounts of throttle. When you normally cruise it is no louder, or you cant hear it.

Then it has a purpose, and is needed for that.

If he wants his engine to be louder at full throttle, by all means he can leave it off.

Ford stick Duratec on everything these days.

Even the 'Duratec ST and Duratec RS' which are really Zetec engines.

Around 2002 i think the 1.3 lump got updated to the Duratec. Taking it from 59bhp to 69bhp at the same time and getting better mpg.

Does yours have a resonator too? If so i dare you to take it off, then with your chavvy exhaust and no resonator you can start woo'ing the 14yo girls!
