what kind of cpu would be suitable to give good hd and gigabit network? (MCE server)

want to have my mce pc in living room, with network cable attatched, so can stream directly from another pc in a different room, would a 1ghz p3 / athlon cope well with just being a fileserver for it?

320gb hard drive, and a gigabit nic, prolly 256 mb ram, on a hugely cut down version of xp..
