Well I found going from a 4000+ @ 2.6ghz to a X2 3800+ @ 2.2ghz (overclocked slightly) my fps in games didn't change even with the 400mhz drop in frequency.

My benchmarks (at the time with a gto2) actually increased by a few points.

I have it running at 2.4ghz now on stock volts and I havn't noticed any problems.
