Safe to say that a quick journey into the loft this morning was worth it!

Totally forgot I had the depths of doom box set that I was given a few years back, now worth a fair old whack which is cool

The pile of xplosiv games include panzer dragoon, battle chess, sega touring car, virtua cop and Matt Hoffman's bmx. And in the little case logic box is:

Incoming
Destruction derby 2
G police
F1 97
Rollercoaster Tycoon
Rollcage
GTA London
Flight sim 98
Theme park
Unreal
FA/18 Korea

Woohoo

The box itself has some real great stuff in it, big box Amiga and Pc wise and a few speccy bits too :)

so i have spoiled the clean line a bit, i wanted my old drives in the same box, so moved in the 5.25" which has badly yellowed and the Zip drive, i also swapped the 3.5" drive which is now working

Also have ordered a 256mb compact flash card, and im going to install Calledra Open dos, i created the disks for these a few years ago, but the 386 i was going to use it on needed to much work beyond my knowledge which i gave to a forum member some time ago. I have 4 boxed of Shell branded unused floppies mix of 5.25" 1.2 and 360k

So few games I am finding arent giving any sound. Namely nfs2 se and rollcage. Rollcage cd music working absolutely fine but no fx. NFS is giving nothing, 3dfx is working though which is nice :)

Plugged the 478 rig in to see it would POST.

All old parts, never used together, some of them bought untested, couple of bits I've had in a box for years...

Wasn't even sure if the CPU was compatible with the board, or if I'd wired the front panel connectors up properly, or anything.

POSTed first time with a single beep, screen lit up, everything seems to be detected, I even connected the front panel up the right way. That went far better than I could have hoped! :D

It's always a damn fine feeling when that happens!

Having a bit of a head scratcher with this sound problem, Just tried quake 3 too and that is completely missing sound as well so that is Rollcage, Q3 and NFS2 SE.

Having a look through DXDIAG at the DX files I seem to have "old versions" as it puts it in my system still it is using. So DX7 is installed but v.40 dsound.dll is still there. it gives a warning about it but when you do a suggested reinstall its still the same?

Update - So now Quake 2 that has always been spot on has lost its sound too.

Heard that DX is like an impossibility to fix on 98, just reinstall and bite the bullet?

I left it sitting for a week before trying the first power-on because I didn't want to ruin the feeling of achievement by it not working. :p

In other news, I just accidentally spent £9 posted on what I thought was a mint condition silver-plastic-fronted Pioneer IDE DVD-RW drive, but I now suspect that it is actually a beige one which someone has painted.

e; Update, no it is actually silver. The plastic tabs on top are beige no matter what facia it came with, black, beige, or silver.
