Which case?

Thanks Guys for looking at my spec.

Well it's good that I have the choice of either case.

The Mushkin brand was recommended to me on this Forum and was told its as good as Crucial. I have no idea, so may stick with Mushkin. Seeing as I won't be gaming, hopefully it should not make a difference.

Again Seagate was recommended to me. I'll take a look at the Western Digital though.

Yes, that's 2x120mm front & rear fans.
If you think I should go for the 80mm (top) fan then that's Ok with me too.

The "KB-058-LG" is a keyboard and mouse package.

Yes, I would like speakers and sound card but could not decide atm (I have asked in the Sound City forum).
Have a look here: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17581939

I am open to suggestions for both items (for 2.1 and 5.1 systems). My first preference was a 5.1 system but I'm told that 2.1 is worth considering and now I'm confused. Really, I should hear them first before I buy. Can I add these items at a later stage?

Thanks.

No it shouldn't. If you're happy with it, that's what counts. 2GB is more than enough.

Seagate and WD are pretty much on par when it comes to harddrives, I've just got a personal preference with WD which pushes them slightly ahead in my book. It's like comparing AMD with Intel (although AMD appear to be running away with it as of late).

If you're getting the PC-7 II, then you'll want the 80mm fan too.

Yea, I saw. If you've got the money to spend, have you tried looking at individual mice and keyboards? The MX1000 is a very good cordless optical mouse. Personally, I'm very tempted to buy myself a G5 wired mouse. If you're aiming for a very professional PC, a sleek and slim keyboard with a decent keystroke may do wonders for the aesthetics too. The logitech Ultra-X has a fairly large userbase on the forums.

That's totally up to you. Unless you're going to be using you computer as an entertainment system with DVDs and the like, I see little use in a 5.1 or higher set up as a 2.1 will do just as well. Most people who want brilliant surround sound from their PCs just end up hooking up their Hi-Fi's anyway.
My personal preference again, but what do you think of the 2.1 Creative i-trigues?

As for soundcards, it may be worth looking at the HiTeC ones.

Although, it seems pointless to me you shelling out on a top of the range card when your use of it may be minimal.

The Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 4 7.1 EAX Sound Card - OEM (SC-037-CL) @ £35 is pretty good value and would easily bide you over.

I will take a look at your suggested keyboard and mouse. Cheers.

Oh yes, I will be listening to music and watching DVDs, so a decent system is needed really.

Thanks for your suggestion of the Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 4 7.1 card.
I assume this is a safe bet for me and it would be still be OK for 2.1 and 5.1 (downward compatible). I won't be hooking up to a hi-fi.

I was suggested the Aego M's for the 2.1 speakers. Shame I can't go some shop to hear the variety of speakers :(

My PC & desk will be located at one end of a Study 4ftx8ft approx, so would a 2.1 system be OK? If I got a 5.1, would I really notice the difference? 2.1 will mean less cabling too!!

I think 2.1s should be more than enough.

Thanks to everyone who has advised me here.
Based on your recommendations, I have pretty much decided on the components which can be seen here:

Did you go with the Plextor SATA optical drive? I only ask because I'm lookimng at SATA optical drives at the moment and I ws wondering why you didn't opt for the Samsung 163 which is half the price of the Plextor?
