The 5770 wont be as fast as the 4890, you'll be paying for the featureset..

2x 5770s are a popular option because they're comparable to a 5870 in performance, but cheaper overall..

    EDIT: cheers kyle :p

They're actually comparable to a 5870 performance wise, if it was comparable to a 5850, why would people be spending more money on 2 5770s when they can get a 5850 for less?

Go for 4890, wait for Fermi and then upgrade to some nice cheap DX11 card (ATI/Nvidia)

personally i would go for a 5770, it wont be as fast as the 4890, but its directx 11 compatible so it will keep its value for longer. And of course if you had two of these this would certainly be a lot faster than a singe 4890. xfire - no probs

Just a heads up that 5770 has already be proven in dx 11, higest setting, AA in 1920x1200 in AVP, that the minimum frame rate dropped to at least as low as 24, so if you are gaming at 1920x1200, you should get at least a 5850 or pair of 5770 xfire. A single 5770 would probably be fine for 1680x1050 dx 11 gaming though.

Go for a 5850- will eat for breakfast anything you throw at it so long as you are on a 24 inch monitor or less and you will have dx11 support.

Plus it will hold its value better if you are thinking about selling it, and future wise you can crossfire when needs be.

If buying new get a 5770 if buying second hand get a 4890 but don't pay more than £90 for one or even better deal.
Way I still look at it is i'd rather play dx11 game in dx9-10 with 60 fps than play it in dx11 with 30 fps.

There's not going to be many dx11 exclusive games for a long while and those that will support dx10/dx9 will mostly have superficial dx11 features. Plus a single 5770 is probably too weak to make use dx11 features.

I dont get your logic there mate. As has been spoken about on this forum on numerous occasions 30fps is perfectly playable, hell Custom PC accept 24fps as playable when reviewing products. Dx 11 games in Dx9 or 10 just to get 60fps. Madness, utter madness but if thats your preference so be it but I'm not sure you should be recommending that to the op.:)

    Really! Dirt2 1920 X 1200 Ultra.
    Max fps = 75
    Avg fps = 42
    Min fps = 32

    Thats a single 5770 for £112.99.:p
