I find of all groups on the Internet, across several forums I post on, the most status-insecure folks tend to be the engineers. I think it's something sociological. On another BF2 forum I post on, there's a large and vocal contingent of ex-military / engineer types that think engineering is the 'One True Path' and all other professions/designations are inferior. I think it's because a lot of engineers come from blue-collar backgrounds (in the States at least) and are encouraged to do math/science at school and college as a way of self-improvement and getting a good job (this is the college dream sold to Americans from the 50's onwards). So they get very snarky about being considered a super-class of upper-middle class human being.

No one cares, it's just a term. The only people this use of 'engineer' bothers is status-insecure engineers.
