For those of us who use Windows Subsystem for Linux, the good news is that Microsoft will be shipping a full custom Linux Kernel based on the latest stable release of 4.19 (and updated with each iteration of the stable release)

I know some of us need a mixed dev environment for various reasons and having a native Kernel will be very handy indeed.

What with Microsoft's new Terminal and the native SSH client they do seem to be trying to make things simpler for mixed environments.

I doubt I'll ditch using Linux virtual machines in VMWare Workstation 15 Pro for WSL. I prefer having a "real" Linux environment. Plus it enables me to have multiple different development environments for various tasks. Plus I can also run FreeBSD or OpenBSD which I enjoy playing around with on occasion.

Just got around to upgrading to WSL 2 in Windows 10 2004 (it is not an automatic process).

WSL 2 makes use of Hyper-V which previously ruled out also using VMware on the same machine. However, VMware Workstation 15.5.5 received significant architecture changes so that the two hypervisors can now be run side-by-side. WSL 2 in itself supports multiple distros.

Really cool to have the two options depending on the use case.
