It could just be a simple case of what your SSD is doing when Windows tests it. The only way I can think 3 of us get different scores.

I will run HDTach later.

Run winsat disk from an elevated command prompt if you want to see what it's doing. If you 3 compare you should see why it's scoring you differently.

This is mine and I score a 7.7

That is a good tip actually and more informative. Here are my results:

The first from my single mechanical drive to show a comparison for anyone who is wondering why they seem to have a ceiling.

Code:
[B]Mechanical Disk[/B]

[B][COLOR="Red"]Disk  Sequential 64.0 Read                   69.55 MB/s       5.9[/COLOR][/B]

I ran winsat on my SSD - Intel X25-M G2 80GB
Code:
[COLOR=YellowGreen]Disk  Sequential 64.0 Read                   258.79 MB/s          7.5

Total Run Time 00:01:20.79
I then ran the SSD Optimizer in Intel's SSD Toolbox software and reran the test:

Code:
[COLOR=Orange]Disk  Sequential 64.0 Read                   260.93 MB/s          7.5

[COLOR=Orange]Average Read Time with Random Writes 0.723 ms 7.9[/COLOR]
Total Run Time 00:01:08.70
The second run was 12 seconds faster and better scores overall. Though annoyingly the rating in the Windows Index stayed at 7.6! :(

Interestingly my overall score has gone up to 7.6 - My 5870 now reads as a 7.8 - no idea why it was only getting a 6.0 before today :/

My screenshot is from the same X25-M 80GB that you have by the way so my scores seem a little better. Your Random read seems a bit slow, which drivers and OS are you using? I'm using the latest RST drivers from http://www.station-drivers.com/page/intel raid.htm which are 2 versions ahead of the ones on Intel's site.

I know, I'm thinking about this right now but I really can't be bothered looking into it till next week. :D

I'm using Windows 7 x64. I thought maybe it was a firmware issue but mine seems to be newer (at least, that's the way we read the numbers) than SB's (2CV102HD vs 2CV102HA)

The only thing that springs to mind is that I'm running IDE and he's running AHCI. If it was a few mb/s out I wouldn't be bothered, but it's pretty significant so needs looking at. Would running in IDE instead of AHCI mode make such a big difference?

AHCI is a massive difference with SSD's due to NCQ. Take a look at this article to see how big the difference can be.

http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.p...sk=view&id=505&Itemid=38&limit=1&limitstart=9

You can enable AHCI with a simple tweak

Cheers for that. Believe it or not I did have a scout on Google for IDE vs AHCI at the time but I didn't get a conclusive answer - obviously didn't look hard enough. I'll let you know if it works. :)

Well what a difference... Broken Hope wins the "spot the obvious flaw in my setup which I actually knew about but didn't think it would make that much of a difference award" :D

WEI says 7.6 for the drive now which is not what I was bothered about (it was the winsat tool that highlighted the problem, so cheers again) but worth mentioning.

Just upgrade hd from old deskstar to a Intel X25-M Mainstream 80GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive.

Looking much better. This is why I don't understand why people are so quick to dismiss the WEI, WEI is just a frontend for winsat, it does valid tests and has helped pinpoint a performance issue with your drive.

I think as a test it clearly does some decent background work, but the actual scoring masks a lot of the information - but this is to be expected as the point is generate a simple score.

In my example I was only dropping 0.3 WEI points in the disk benchmark but my results were horrendous. This actually contributed to me not looking into the problem further as I figured the small discrepancy was down to my motherboard being a few years old or maybe my disk hit a bit of activity when I ran WEI.

Anyway I really like that winsat tool, I'll be definitely using that in the future. Thanks again.

i like the wei scores, my ssd was showing 5.9, most peeps on this forum said just leave it, it means nothing, but i had an issue and a clean format sorted it and was back to 7.8 the Intel optimizer was not working.
