Windows does not recognise new HD??

    Hi

    just purchased the new Seagate 320Gb Seagate ST3320620AS Barracuda.
    and for some reason windows does not seem to recognise it?? totally baffled.

    i am on a k8vse asus motherboard, have set the hd up on the promise controller but no avail? i think the problem is that because it is a satta 2 hd, i know they are backward compatible, but my samsung 120g satta 1 hd works fine on the controller and is recognised by windows. But having said that the segate drive is recognised by the controller at boot up.

    so it could be a windows problem, I hate Windows!

    have tried to manually install the drive as automatic search does not recognise it.

    any help would be appreciated.

    Have you formatted the drive through windows?

    Right click My Computer -> Manage -> Disk Management

    Does the drive appear in the device manager but not My Computer?

    EDIT: beaten to it

    guys thanks for all your help, i just remembered that i have to disk management and configure them there..sorry feel :o

    have sorted them out now, will let you all know what the drive is like.

    its exam stress, honestly!
