Hi all,

I am building a mid 2000's PC to play some mid 2000's games on (original COD, Q3 TA, Doom 3 etc).

I know windows XP 64 bit was always a bit of a funny one with regards to drivers, so could use XP 32 bit. If I were to use Windows 7 what is it like in terms of XP era software compatibility? Or do I just go with XP SP3...

Technically it was around the time Vista came out, but that was always a bit of a half way house and never much liked?

Appreciate anyone's experience!

I would try Windows 7 first, failing that XP 32-bit. Which games will you be playing?

I am thinking the same, Windows 7 is a bit more up to date and secure if going online than XP is. Just some mid 2000 release, I could play them on my main machine of course but that's not really the point. Doom 3, COD, that sort of thing. I am building a 2006 (ish) machine with an Athlon X2 64 6000+ and SLI 8800 GTS 640MB. Using Windows 7 means I can use the full 8GB I have as well, rather than being limited to 4GB.
