Hi all,

Looking to buy a wireless printer for home. It will mainly be used to print documents. I dont think it will be used to print out pictures but since I have a 5 year old that might change.

I have had printers in the past but they were cheap and the ink nearly cost more then the printer!

Thanks!

Have a look for a midrange Canon that's old enough to have third-party cartridges available.

I personally gave up with Epson printers years ago because of permanently blocked heads when they weren't used enough. A problem I haven't had with Canon.

Replaced a Canon MP620 with an Epson Ecotank ET-4750 yesterday. Had it less than 24 hours but first impressions are good.

There are a few models in the Epson ET range, reasons for picking the ET-4750.
+ Paper tray cassette, most model have a paper feed at the rear. If the printer isn't used much the paper starts to bend and you can't place the printer against a wall or on a narrow shelf. The tray on the 4750 holds 250 sheets (3750 holds 150). All other models only have the rear paper tray
+ Large LCD touch display, for a few £ more than the 3750 why not :)
+ 2x ink bottles of each colour included. Estimated to last two years. I used to buy the cheap 3rd party cartridges for the Canon so ink didn't cost me much but they always needed replacing after 2 to 3 months.
+ ADF, don't scan often but when I do it's usually several pages and a sheet at a time is a pain.
+ Mobile apps, iPrint looks good and has a high rating on Google Play
+ Remote print options, Google Cloud Print, Remote Print, "send to email" printing.
+ Scan options include upload to Google Drive, OneDrive and computers on local network with Epson Event Manager installed.
+ Universal print driver and scanner driver for Windows Server 2019.

The ET-3750 wasn't in stock so choosing the ET-4750 made my decision easier. Differences, 4750 has larger paper tray, touchscreen and Fax.

Hopefully with the large ink and paper capacity the printer won't need much maintenance. Just fill it up and leave it for the family to print.

And since it was mentioned
If you don't use the printer for ages
And it stops printing
To unblock it here's the way
Courtesy of a fuji film ink chemist I once knew lol
Done this lots of times for people
On Epson or other printers with spikes
Take cartridges out
Get cheap glass cleaner, especially whiz
Spray kitchen towel with it and place it
Around the cartridge spikes
Leave for 30 minutes
Remove paper towels and you will see they dissolved the dried up ink
Repeat till no ink on towel
Job done your printer should print properly :D:D

Deep dark hole
I've had a Canon MG6250 for donkeys years.
Non OEM cartridges are dirt cheap
It sat for 5 years in the shed whilst using a work provided printer.
Work one went kaput so got it back out and started printing straight off
Cant recommend old Epson as constantly blocking up, cant comment on new stuff

Got the HP tango recently. Can't fault it for ad hoc printing in the house. Nice and compact as well. Decent print speed and resolution. Bought high capacity ink pack that should keep us going for a while.

If your printing needs are light check it out. For more
heavy duty printing perhaps look at ones with built in trays/duplex etc.
