Wireless router and repeater combination recommendations

Absent a commercial grade mesh network (and absent eero or luma!), I'm looking to roll wifi out across a very, very old house with immensely thick walls.

I can't use powerline as there are no less than three different loops in the house!

The Netgear EX6120 seems highly recommended for the repeaters, and the Netgear A1600 for the router reviews well for range (usage requirements are basic: office work, streaming).

Any recommendations?

Any chance you could install some network cables? Multiple wireless access points wired back to the router would be a much better solution than using extenders.
