x1800xt..power cable not connected?

just tried installing my new x1800xt on a asus a8n-sli, 400W asaka PSU, winnie [email protected], 2gb ram, 3 HDD, audigy 2zs

anyway i put it in, turned on, error message saying power supply or something not connected to graphics card?

its pci-e i thought it didnt need any extra cables...and yes the atx12v cable is connected...on my 6600gt now

surely my PSU can at least handle to boot with the new gfx card?

It'll handle it, but you need the 6x pin PCI-E cable plugged into it.

EDIT: the adapter should have come with the card.
