ok i've found this post somewhere else which seems to fix it, but i don't know what it means. Anyone?

"fixed it... some ATI cards need an updated direcpll to work"

this is the error message i get in HL2 etc

"failed to lock index buffer in CMeshDX8::LockIndexBuffer"... (engine error)

also when it detects my auto settings for graphics it's telling me i want to have tilinear filtering on instead of x16 - which is what i want.

    ideas?

Aquamark needs an updated file as I think he has already mentioned.

That error I have also recieved in HL2 using a X800XTPE and an X1800XL, are you running Adaptive Antialiasing by any chance?

I found using that seemed to coinside with the error. Have a play with it :)

As for the auto check settings, I believe its just source not recongising your card as being powerfull. Would be interesting to see how It works it out.

nice one hedgey, i'd almost given up on that.

good news is i've let ati overdrive do it's thing, an my card is happy at 690/800 :D

9730 in 3dmark05, will let you know the aquascore when i get it.

One other thing, did i read that you can mod the volts on these 1800s with software? And did people ever get past the 690/800 barrier?

i know there's the PE bios knocking around but that ramps the volts from 1.2 to 1.4 doesn't it? bit of a big jump on stock cooling...

Dave... I *think* the XL voltage is 1.2, where as ** card voltage is either 1.35v or 1.4v (think its 1.4v - opterons voltages are 1.35v :p). The PE bios for you should only change your clocks.
There is some software which lets you modify the voltage - its normally on peoples screen shots :)

i'm running the 6-23 bios and 6.1 cats...
