I have the option of getting either of these quite cheaply. Which one is likely to clock better on the following?

Asus A8N SLI-Premium
2 x Corsair XMS3200CPT2

or possibly a

Sapphire PURE RD580 CrossFire Advantage
2 x Corsair XMS3200CPT2

I currently have a Clawhammer 4000+

Im unsure about the multipliers on both of these cpus, i know that the x2 3800 has a 10 multi and i think that the opty has a 9 multi but i am a bit unsure - if thats right then with those boards the x2 3800 might be the better cpu to get because of its higher multi but in other ways the opty would be better because of its stability and lower stock voltages

I'm interested between:
Athlon 64 X2 4400 vs Opteron 64 175 - both 2.2ghz, 2mb L2
Athlon 64 X2 4800 vs Opteron 64 180 - both 2.4ghz, 2mb L2

The Opty's are better because of there lower starting voltage but cost more. As with everything you get what you pay for :)

All Opterons have 2mb L2 where as only the above mentioned Athlon X2's do.
So at the low end (3800 X2 vs 165) the 3800 X2 has a better multiplier and the 165 has better L2.

The 4400 and the 4800 have the same clock speeds as the 4200 and 4600 respectivly but the extra L2 makes them 4400 and 4800 instead. So basically AMD are saying that an extra 200 mhz is about the same as a 2mb L2.

The 165 has lower starting voltage but does that mean that the upper limit will be lower or can you still push as many volts through it as you could an X2?

What you want is the Opteron 170 if you can get a little extra cash, so you get the 2mb and the 10x :)
