Im affraid some chips are better than others.
It depends on how equally matched the cores are.
Sorry about that spluff.

Ive retried SP this morning and core 1 failed at 4M which is strange as it cope with F@H all night.
Core 2 failed 3 WUs in F@H during the night so I think it is the weakest.
Ive clocked back to 2.75 for the rest of the day, Ill remove the IHS tonight which should drop the temps by about 10c. Hopefully it should even out both cores performance.
For those interested in the performace at 2.8Ghz below is the SP times:

---------------Core 1---------------------------Core 2--------------------
1M------------31.313---------------------------31.250--------------------
2M-------01m 11.812-----------------------01m 11.938--------------------
4M-------02m 35.734-----------------------02m 35.406--------------------
8M-------05m 43.750-----------------------05m 43.328--------------------
16M------12m 49.781-----------------------12m 49.890-------------------

For me she has to be stable to run F@H, the different WUs stress the CPU and RAM in different ways, so the system has to be 99.9% stable in order for it to complete any WU it gets.
I built her as a folding machine so its 2.75Ghz untill the IHS comes off and no more than 2.8Ghz on water. Dont like to give her that much voltage without the temps being around -1c (Vapochilled)
Thats me for now, let you know how she does with the IHS removed. ;)
Tom :)
Edit I checked mine on CPUZ and shes a Toledo Core E6 revision.

Ok, been messing around and have upped the voltage to 1.525 @ auto and now have 2.75GHz superPI stable. CPU-Z here

dropped the RAM to rock bottom again tho until i get this sorted

ok, now have this . passes superpi 1m, but the first core gives up on the 32m test

have voltages now to 1.5 @ 110% so 1.65. temps hit 40/41C under load so i think it may just be the limit for this CPU :(

Nice to see you getting there Concorde Rules :) , but that voltage is a bit high, i rearly dont wanna go that high unless i have to :D

Im at 1.595V BIOS now... 43C load!! I want heat dammit!

1.612V is the highest im going to go with it, 2.6ghz may be on the cards! :D

IHS Removed = 2.8Ghz

Well guys, I removed the IHS (Ive done four A64s now, first was a 2800 skt754 just in case I messed up), popped her back in and brought her up gently from 2.4Ghz. From 2.78 to 2.8 took about 2hrs to do, I kept increasing the V.core but she wouldnt do "SP 32M". My RAM was at 254Mhz 6-2-2-2 1T so I wasnt sure if it was on the edge. Finally I increased the V.core to 1.6v and the V.dimm to 3.5v and gave the Ldt a boost to 1.7v just in case.
The result is I now have a 2.8Ghz X2 3800 which is folding away nicely now. :D

The missing SP time for 32M is:

------------------Core 1---------------------------Core 2-----------------
32M-----------28m 11.000----------------------28m 14.188---------------

Temps & Voltages:
CPU idle 30c, load 39c
CPU 1.6v (set in bios) Smart Guardian and CPUZ both show 1.58v
LDT 1.4v (set in bios) Smart Guardian shows 1.37v
DRAM 3.5v (set in bios) Smart Guardian shows 3.47v

If anyone can tell me how to grab a screen shot, Ill post one, and dose it have to be a certain size.

For everyone trying to get to the "Magic 2.8Ghz" I wish you the best of luck, it certainly wasnt easy for my chip but it did get there in the end.
My Vapo is out of commision at the mo, I need a new Temp Sensor for it.
Itll take a couple of days to arrive from Denmark which will give me time to consider if itll be worth hooking the 3800 up to it. Judging the increase in volts from 2.7 to 2.8 it would probably need 1.675 to 1.7v to get to 2.9 and to me the extra speed would not be worth it. However I might just give it a go, just to see if it would get there.

:D Ive got a 2.8Ghz X2 3800 whoopie :D

Lucky sod :( However I still have 17C to play with, so 1.65V here it comes!

Screenshots press "Print screen" save into a picture editor, a small 800x600 will do, if youc ant read 800x600, 1024x768 should be a fine size :)

Make sure its JPEG :)

Good Luck Tomos, gently does it Im sure youll get there. ;)

Concorde, Print Screen isnt working Ive got a Logitech keyboard on a KVM switch with 5 PCs plugged in and it wont work on any? Do you think its the KVM switch?
After I removed the IHS I found it didnt need as much V.core. Just been surfing XtremeSys Forum: CPUs: AMD: Offical X2 Overclocking Thread and it looks like a dramatic drop in temps = less V.core.
It certainly made a difference for me.
Im not recommending you remove yours as you could damage the cores in doing so, and you would invalidate your warranty. ;)

CPUZ validation here

Im thinking of doing it to my Opteron and its got an XP120 on it. Ill have to cut out sections of the black plastic support frame to make sure it gets good contact though.
Ill practice it on an Asus K8N with my A64 2800 (754) first to make sure Im not going to damage the core.
Ill let you know how it goes.
If it works well Ill post some pics. :)

I have my x2 3800 runnig now at:

250x10
2GB TWINX Pro ram at 250 6-3-3-3-1
30c idle
50c full(prime on both cores)
ht 3x
cooler is Zelman Cu 120MM
cpu - 1.45V, ram,chip at auto.

So it`s prety much optimal with cpu and ram running at the same speed and 4x250=1000.

What will be tha best to do to go for more?
I know, I have to run HT at 3x, but can the ram run at the same speed with CPU, for example 10x260?or 10x270 or i have to change multi to 9x?
And i kow the ram should be runnig at 6-2-2-2-1, but is not. Do i have to change to voltage on it or decrease under 250MHZ?
