Product information: Aorus GA-Z270X-Gaming 7 Intel Z270 (Socket 1151) DDR4 ATX Motherboard

Z270 Motherboard (ATX) for Gamers, with 3× PCIe 3.0 x16 (x16/x8/x4), 2× USB 3.1 (1x Type A & 1x Type C), 2× M.2 (PCIe 3.0 x4) & 1× U.2 (PCIe 3.0 x4), 9× USB 3.0 + 6x SATA 6G, 1× RGB-LED Header & Gigabytes FUSION RGB-LEDs The GIGABYTE AORUS GA-Z270X-Gaming 7 is an ATX motherboard utilising Intel's Z270 chipset for Intel processors from the 6th ("Skylake") and 7th ("Kaby Lake") generations on socket LGA 1151. The chipsets from the 200 series, known as "Union Point", come with up to 24 PCIe Express 3.0 lanes and bring more overall HSIO lanes (High Speed I/O) as well, thereby enabling more internal connections (such as SATA or PCIe slots) to be used simultaneously. As a Z270 motherboard, the GIGABYTE AORUS GA-Z270X-Gaming 7 enables overclocking of K-series CPUs, which offer completely unlocked multipliers.

The Features of the GIGABYTE AORUS GA-Z270X-Gaming 7 - An Overview:

  • 3× PCIe (3.0) x16 (16/8/4) & 3× PCIe (3.0) x1
  • 2× USB 3.1 (Type A & Type C) / 9× USB 3.0
  • 2× M.2 (PCIe 3.0 x4) / 1× U.2 (PCIe 3.0 x4) / 6× SATA 6G
  • Supports up to 64 GB DDR4-RAM at 2.400 MHz
  • FUSION RGB-LED Lighting
  • Expandable via RGB-LED Header (4-Pin)
  • CPU Overclocking via Multiplier & Baseclock

The GIGABYTE AORUS GA-Z270X-Gaming 7 in Detail

The GIGABYTE AORUS GA-Z270X-Gaming 7 is a very well-featured ATX motherboard with Intel's Z270 chipset offering compatibility with Intel's processors from the 6000 and 7000 series. This black- themed board comes with three PCIe-x16 slots, of which one is connected with a full 16 lanes to the chipset, while the others are connected electrically with four lanes respectively i.e eight total. For I/O options and expansion cards the board comes with three further PCIe x1 slots and supports NVIDIA's SLI and AMD's CrossFireX technology.

The motherboard provides DDR4 RAM compatibility over 4 DIMM slots in ultra-fast dual-channel mode. The memory banks take up to 64 GB RAM and, depending on the processor installed, supports memory clocks of either 2.133 MHz (with Skylake CPUs) or 2.400 MHz (with Kaby Lake CPUs). One of the unique features of the GIGABYTE AORUS GA-Z270X-Gaming 7 is the Fusion RGB-LED lighting and a header for RGB-LED strips.

In order to connect the very fastest data storage devices, the board comes with two M.2 slots for extreme NVMe M.2 SSDs, as well as six SATA 6G ports for 3,5" or 2,5" hard drives and SSDs (including RAID support). The M.2 ports are connected via four PCIe lanes on the 3.0 standard to the chipset and, in combination with the NVMe protocol, enable a data transfer rate of almost 4 GB/s. This allows M.2 PCIe SSDs to function up to eight times faster than SATA 6G SSDs!

The motherboard's I/O panel offers a new kind of USB port, USB Type C, which is particularly thin and is finally able to be plugged in both ways. Besides the Type C port, the motherboards also provide a backwards compatible USB 3.1 Type A port. USB 3.1 ports, with their maximum throughput at 10 GBit/s, twice as fast as previous USB 3.0 ports! As far as input devices and other gaming peripherals are concerned, the I/O panel also offers five USB 3.0 ports.

If no graphics card is present, the integrated GPU on the Skylake or Kaby Lake CPU allows for monitors to be connected directly to the rear of the motherboard - HDMI and DisplayPort are available. Internally the motherboard offers - among other functions - two USB 3.0- and USB 2.0 headers, a TMP header, four 4-pin headers for PWM fans as well as XMP support and an array of overclocking features.

Board is great but GB App centre needs work

I picked this board because I wanted a certain look for the upgrade I was doing, this board jumped out as feature rich but not too expensive

The board is an easy install and setup and RGB fusion does work BUT, the GB App centre needs a serious redesign, it's buggy, and crashes and really doesn’t let me do all the things I want to do with the lighting that I was expecting.
In addition, RGB Fusion really does have a limited use outside of Gigabyte products, I was hoping my NZXT gear would link it and sync but it does not, nor do my case fans. It’s not world ending but annoying

The board itself is actually really nice, install was simple and easy and I have some pretty decent OC features to push your rig where you want it to go.

top board

well aafter loads of deliberation of choosing ryzen or intel, chose i5 7600k as best gaming cpu around for money, then needed mainboard, after lots of deliberation and studying form etc, chose this board, it looks absolutly stunning in my nzxt slite whits case, the aorus lighting is stunning, also a auto overclock using ggabyte easytune in the app centre in windows got my i5 7600k at a 4.8 overclock stable, i know using the software in windows or the bios i could easily get 5.0 or higher no probs, the board oozes quality, always been asus, was either going to be asus strixx or this board but truthfully from now on gigabyte all the way and they also have better custom support than asus in the uk as well as they have a centre in uk for such is another reason i went over to gigabyte.
