Frustratingly close to perfect

I'd love to give it five stars, because for the most part it's a great laptop/ultrabook. The specs are fantastic and it has handled everything that I've thrown at it thus far. It boots quickly, Photoshop/Illustrator etc open in seconds and the few games I've tried on it (Far Cry 3, Skyrim) have all run smoothly on high settings.

Unfortunately I've also had some problems with it. Part of the plastic gigabyte lettering on the cover lifted in the first couple of days and after cutting my hand on it twice I ripped out the Y. Only minor but an annoying start. Then after a week it wouldn't boot and just kept cycling, not even allowing me to enter bios. I started an RMA but after a few hours it sorted itself out so I kept hold of it. Since then it's been fine but I don't entirely trust it.

As other reviews have mentioned the fans are loud, especially under load. If you don't plan on using a headset it can get rather annoying. The battery life is also disappointing, normally only lasting a couple of hours. If you tweak the settings you can probably get more out of it but it's still not great. There's also quite a bit of flex in the centre of the keyboard, and the left-hand corner of the touchpad has dropped slightly below the chasis with very little use. Finally the sound has started crackling intermittently, both through the onboard speakers and a USB headset.

Most of those gripes are pretty minor, but collectively they made a great laptop slightly underwhelming. At this price the very least you should expect is solid build quality and it doesn't quite cut it. Probably should have gone for the MacBook Pro instead...

By and for real enthusiasts

You can tell right away that this project was the pride and joy of some very geeky people at Gigabyte. This is a serious laptop for serious enthusiasts who want and demand everything. It has 1080p IPS, full-power i7 haswell, 760M GPU, SSD msata, additional 2.5 sata hard drive, full size hdmi and vga, aluminium housing, good onboard audio.

For something this powerful it's very slim, it even fits in my old 13.3'' laptop sleeve.

I did a lot of research before buying this one and I'm very happy with my choice! Best laptop I've had.

I undervolted the cpu and turned down the wifi signal strenght in device manager, that fixed the battery life and I can now get 6-7h of wifi surf for travel which is plenty for me.

Powerful lightweight, couple of niggles

This laptop has great performance and at 1.67kg is lightweight, and is thinner than my old 13.3" toshiba laptop, unfortunately however the battery life isn't great, in retrospect I think that a couple of extra cells in the battery would have been more appropriate than a second hard drive, and would have reduced the weight even further.

Also while the metallic finish is nice, the keyboard is slightly flimsy, on cheaper business laptops I have experienced much firmer keyboards and touchpad buttons.
