The Gigabyte Aorus Gaming 7 in DetailThe Gigabyte Aorus Gaming 7 is a premium enthusiast motherboard using the ATX format and is designed for hardware enthusiasts and professionals looking for a X299- & Skylake-X or Kaby-Lake X pairing. The extremely stylish black board comes with five PCIe-x16 slots, of which two are connected to the chipset with a full 16 lanes while the other three are connected electrically by 8 or 4 data lines. This allows the use of a 28 or 44 lane CPU as well as NVIDIA's 3-Way-SLI or AMD's 3-Way- CrossFireX configuration.
Equipped with a total of eight DIMM-slots for DDR4-RAM, a CPU with 28 or 44 data lines can operate all slots in Quad-Channel mode with up to a maximum capacity of 128 GB of memory. A CPU with 16 lanes supports Dual-Channel mode over four slots with a maximum capacity of 64 GB. Officially DDR4 modules can be used at up to 2.400 MHz, and clockspeeds of up to 4.333 MHz are possible after overclocking.
The board provides extensive connectivity for data storage devices with three M.2 slots for exceptionally fast NVMe-M.2 SSDs as well as eight SATA 6G ports for 3,5" or 2,5" hard drives and SSDs (including RAID support). The M.2 ports are connected to the chipset via four PCIe lanes using the 3.0 standard which enables, in combination with the NVMe protocol, a data transfer rate of almost 4 GB/s. This allows M.2 PCIe SSDs to function up to eight times faster than SATA 6G SSDs! Furthermore the M.2 slots are equipped with thermal guards to allow the heat build-up on the modules to be reduced and prevent lost performance.
External ConnectorsThe I/O bracket of this performance-oriented motherboard comes with various useful ports to make life easier for users. Besides the new USB-3.1 Type-C port, which is particularly thin and finally allows connection in either orientation, the board comes with four further backwards compatible USB 3.1 ports. Thanks to the ASMedia 3142 USB 3.1 controller, maximum speeds of up to 16 Gbit/s are reached, three times faster than previous USB 3.0 ports. For quality sound the the Realtek ALC1220 Codec and a total of five gold-plated audio ports are available, supplemented by an optical S/PDIF-Out port. Furthermore a classic PS/2 port for keyboards and mice is provided on the I/O panel.
