Excellent budget board

Bought this to build my son his first PC.

Little to say about this other than its superb value for money, and well laid out.

Would be nice if it had a USB 3.0 motherboard header - as it is my chosen case's front mounted USB 3.0 connector is redundant - but its not the end of the world.

VERY IMPORTANT - I bought this board from OCUK in August '13. Gigabyte may say that it comes Ivybridge ready, but it is utter garbage. I put an i3 3220 Ivybridge into this board, but it kept crashing whilst trying to install Windows 7. But its not all doom and gloom as some reviewers have stated (i.e. need a compatible CPU to use in the board whilst you update the BIOS etc). I was able to use the Gigabyte Q-Flash utility to update the BIOS, and it worked perfectly from there on in.

I also then flashed to the new UEFI BIOS using a bootable USB, and the system is running brilliantly - and all for

Great....for sandybridge

This board is great but if you buy it with Ivy bridge expect it not to work until you have upgraded the bios using the previous CPU's

great with sandybridge not so good for ivy bridge users who dont have access to other CPU's to upgrade the BIOs

Bargain for an overclocker

PROS:

Has a multitude of bios settings for overclocking, i got a easy 4.6ghz on this mobo from my 2500k i5.

CONS: Having to use voltage offset and relying on bios to auto set the vcore is annoying since the user can't manually set the v core.

Conclusion: Wait for REV. 2.0 it has manual v core - THEN BUY IT!!

Seems like a good one

I was really scared buying ths mobo because of the low price with respect to other z68 boards. But so far it seems really good. be warned it is a little smaller than a standard atx motherboard. It only needed 6 of the standard 9 screw holes to attach it to my case. but apparently that's fine and it runs very well

Knocking on the doors of much more expen

Looks great, good build quality (though the top HS is a bit loose as it's only held on with springs, but it works fine, no issue there.

Good... while it worked

I bought this board to allow some future expansion (also bought an i3 but had the intention to upgrade to an i5k and overclock in due course).

It worked well: decent feature set (although no VGA out, but I knew that) and was incredible value compared to other Z68 mobos out there.

Then, precisely 4 days after activating Windows 7 it died. I wasn't overclocking, I wasn't changing hardware. I was changing some innocuous BIOS settings (boot order) and on restarting it got caught in the infamous Gigabyte boot loop.

After spending a fair bit of time on Google it seems the Gigabyte Z68 cards are somewhat notorious for this problem but there isn't a reliable fix. To be fair, most commonly the problem seems to be caused by OCing so maybe mine was just bad luck.

Given the choice again I'd go for a slightly more expensive alternative make...

Punches above its weight!

I was very reluctant about getting this board due to it's very low price, with computers I'm a firm "you get what you pay for" kinda guy.

I feel a bit stupid now because this board is absolutely fantastic. Comes with a full suite of utilities to auto overclock your system if you want, desktop based bios and all the other goodies you expect from a top board.

If you're unsure about this mobo then I recommend you read some reviews out there as I'm yet to read a bad word about it.

Got this with a SSD and boot times are around 30 seconds, took 6 minutes to install windows.

Highly recommended.

Great Budget Board

Very happy with this entry level Z68 board. Coupled with a 2500k processor it is delivering everything I could have expected in terms of performance and value for money.
