Good monitor for productivity, media consumption and gaming.

**Cross post from my Amazon UK review**

When I first received the monitor, the first thing I noticed was the blue tinge that the panel gave off. Being someone who does colour sensitive design work, I had a colorimeter to calibrate the display. The new ICC profile set the white balance to ~6500K, and the monitor can produce 100% sRGB and 89% AdobeRGB. Colour and brightness uniformity on the panel is something I've found really impressive for something so large. Watching 21:9 movies on the screen is a pleasure coming from IPS, with richer blacks and general higher contrast. The edges of the display are the only places with very obvious problems with backlight uniformity, but most of the time it isn't noticeable.

Moving up from 1080p to 4K, the amount of work you can get done on one screen is amazing. 40" (39.5") 4K is roughly equivalent to the PPI of 27" 1440p, which is a real sweet spot. The size means that you don't need to use any scaling in your operating system.

For gaming, the monitor is decent. I've found ghosting to be minimal for an MVA panel. I play a lot of mainstream titles, including CS:GO, Rocket League, and GTA V. For CS:GO, I've been running at native resolution with no problems. I've tried playing around with custom resolutions such as 3840x1600, but the UI doesn't scale correctly. Rocket League runs perfectly fine at 3440x1440. Setting custom resolutions means that you can effectively use the monitor as an ultrawide. I run GTA V at 1080p, and scaling is okay. This is one of the main gripes I have with this monitor. Scaling anything below 1080p is really intolerable. It's like the monitor is trying to compensate the lower resolution with insane anti-aliasing. Rather than just smoothing the edges, it also makes text completely unreadable At that point, I'd honestly prefer the monitor to scale with no attempt at fixing edges.

Saying what I just said, watching less than 1080p content is fine. The problem comes when the software leaves the monitor to do the scaling. 720p movies are just fine. With the enhanced contrast you get with MVA, you really notice the difference between a low and high bitrate movie. It ruins the experience a bit when the shadows in a scene all blend into one shade of black.

Build quality wise, the monitor is really well built. Each powder coated metal stand is secured to the main body with a single bolt which has a little hinged part so you can use your fingers to tighten them. The headphone holder on the left side of the monitor is something I've found really useful. It's the perfect size for a pair of AKG K702s.

All in all, it's a good monitor, and I definitely don't regret my purchase. It does everything that I want it to, and more. I'm inclined to buy from Iiyama again in the future.

Great 4K monitor for the price (and size)

+ Good picture
+ No light bleed or glow
+ No coil whine
+ Twice the screen for half the money in compare to most Ultrawides
+ I dont notice any input lag
+ Future proved with HDMI 2.0 so I can demote it from monitor to TV in couple years time and still get 4k @ 60Hz from next gen. consoles
+ Nice blacks, whites, colours in general
+ At Ultrawide resolution at night I can't tell where black bars end and monitor bezel starts
+ Allows 10 bit colour setting in windows. Really future proof.

- Stand should be lower. Something like what I have on my 40HX753 would have been far more suitable for a monitor !
- From sub-menus cant get back to main menu not sure how they QC remote.
- TN has bad viewing angles from sides. This monitor however has bad viewing angle when sitting in front of it ! Having GTX Titan 4k Wallpaper there is definitelly black Crush in centre of the screen where I can distinguish grey from black only if I move my head to the side. Looking at it directly the dark area is just all black.

Bear in mind though, I have it at 0 brightness. If you don't play at night or you keep your lights on I doubt this will be a problem.

Saying that.... it's a keeper.

Whould've knocked a star if it was more expensive than 34" Ultrawides (looking at you Samsung VA) or 32" 4k screens . But for less than £500 ??? I game at custom 3840x1620 with black bars that are truly black and for desktop, youtube and older games it's 4k. Many movies and all documentaries are 16:9 too.

This is £1'000 screen for less than half price.
